Renardat-Fache Description

Bugey, an alpine wine making region in Central Eastern France encircled by the Jurassic Mountains and Swiss Alps. In total Bugey is just a mere 170ha, perched on steep alpine hillsides and dotted with fields of grazing cows. An incredibly diverse terrain, it’s also known for its marshlands that provide great fish and game to local restaurants and fostered the great, historic culinary mind Brillat-Savarin.

The Renardat-Fache winery is a 7th generation estate that shows no sign of slowing down. Dedicated for generations to producing Bugey’s most famous style of wine, a sparkling semi-sweet Rosé is made from Gamay and Poulsard. Their "Comme Dans La Cave à Mémé" is their foray into the world of Bugey still wine and is made from 100% Gamay. This represents a new direction from the winery, something the current generation Elie is excited to offer!

This is a rustic, meaty and peppery style of Gamay. There’s a tiny bit of sulfur added just before bottling. The wine is aged in old foudres, one of which is depicted on the label, in the cellar of Elie Renardat's grandmother Mémé's house (hence the name of the wine). A fresh, easy drinking drink that would make a great pairing to local Hudson Valley’s steelhead trout with spring pea shoots and or a warmed piece of brie.
