"Las Cabanuelas" is Viendos del Jorco's entry level bottling comprised of purchased Garnacha throughout Cebreros grown on both granite and slate. Without a doubt one of the more elegant 'entry level' bottling we've come across in some time. Those extra couple of dollars make a big difference in this case. Fragrent crushed cherries mingle with eucalyptus and citrus oil. More than just refreshing juice, there is plenty of balancing stemy and stoney bitterness and lithe acid that add those extra third or fourth dimensions. Buisiness partners Cesar Ruiz, Flequi Berruti and Nacho Jimenez, behind the wine shop La Tintoreria Vinoteca in Madrid and boutique Spanish Importer/Distributorship, Alma Vinos Unicos partnered with winemaker Raul Perez for this wine project. Their focus turned toward the DO of Cebreros outside of Madrid, where high elevation Garnacha is capable of expressing delicate, high toned, mineral rich reds adding exciting dimensions to what can be a fairly uniform varietal.
Since starting in 2009, it took until the 2011 to find the right vineyards for the wines they wanted to make and then another five years until they purchased their own Garnacha vines planted in 1915. Composed of two types of decompossed granite, their soils are deep, fine and sandy with the ability to retain water in what is an extremely dry climate with large diurnal temperature shifts. This amounts to very fresh, lively and filigreed Garnacha. Their natural fermentations are carreid out in concrete for their entry level wines before resting in neutral barrels, while their higher end cuvees are both fermented and rested in wood cask. -Polaner
