Viña Aldaia is the project of sisters Laura and Miren Martinez (daughters of Florentino Martinez Monje, founder of Luberri). They are proudly 100% Rioja Alavesa. They are also involved in the family winery but they wanted to make other wines, with their own style and their own philosophy. Quality wines, Rioja rooted, but different from their parents and this is the origin. For this, they choose a very particular plot, placed at 570 m of altitude, high of a hill, with Northern & Eastern exposure. In Basque Aldaia means summit, it is the top area of a hill or a mountain. As where this plot is placed. For them, altitude means freshness and elegance. Exactly what they were looking for. The soil is very white, very deep, and calcareous which is also very suitable for tempranillo, which prefers calcareous versus clay. The winemaking is very simple and looking to enhance the potential of this location’s soil and altitude.
Wine Notes: 30-40yr old vines, 100% Tempranillo, destemmed. Fermented at low temperature, 8 days maceration, in steel with native yeast. Aged 3mo in tank, Lightly filtered (bentonite)
