Staff Notes:
Flow White is 100% direct press Carignan. The white juice is pressed off the red grape skins immediately leaving no time for maceration and therefore resulting in a rather lively white wine. Natural fermentation occurs shortly after in stainless steel and finishes in tank for 6 months. The wine only sees a light and gentle filtration and a shockingly low amount of sulfer for how clean it tastes and holds up. A burst of high toned cosmic star fruit and white flowers settles into a textured saline finish. Like eating tangy shaved ice while strolling down sandy beaches. -Matt
Sota Els Angels, Catalan for "under the angels" was started in 2007 by Maria Jesus Polanco and Guy Jones on a secluded farm, five kilometers from the Mediterranean in the wine region of Emporda north of Barcelona. A particularly ancient wine region long home to indigenous Iberian tribes, Emporda was also colonized by the Greeks and later the Romans who each introduced their own winemaking methods to the region. Today, Emporda wines only represent a very small fraction of Spanish wine and is generally known for more powerful styles of wine.
In 2013 winemaker Fredi Tores began collaborating with Maria and Guy, improving the health and expression of their vineyards. Today they hold 8 hectares of vines grown on steep broken slate and silty loam soils with silica. While the focus of their "Sota Els Angels" labeled wines is complexity and ageability, the "Flow" label is dedicated to a more racy, fresh and 'natural' style. -Polaner
