Franck Balthazar Description

Based in Cornas in the Northern Rhône, Franck Balthazar has been making wine at his domaine since 1980 and officially taking over operations from his father since 2002. The domaine was originally founded in 1931 by his grandfather as one hectare of old vines and some new plantings. From what was originally just one hectare, Franck and his father expanded to 3.5 hectares. Even with the additions, production is quite low and carried out each year in a small cellar behind a local church. Franck likes to ferment his parcels seperately which allows for pure expressions of each unique terroir. Franck ferments with stem inclusion, light pump overs and pigeage. Wine is aged in 600L demi-muid barrels. His wines are luxurious, expressive, elegant  and unmistakable reflections of place. -Savio Soares

Perjak is a 50/50 blend of Roussanne and Jacquere. The Roussanne comes from Saint-Péray in the Northern Rhône while the Jacquere comes from the slopes of Apremont in Savoie. A vineyard Franck took over from Dominique Belluard. The wine is made at Franck's facility in Cornas. Juicy and aromatic channelling citrus and yellow fruits and supportive acidity. Vinified in a natural style. - Savio Soares
